Preparing for a Power Outage

by On Oct 13 2015

Power outages can happen to anyone, anywhere and at anytime. Unfortunately, we don’t have a crystal ball that will tell us when a power outage will strike, but we can be prepared. We have the 411 on what you can do to prepare for the outage.

Before

  • Create an emergency kit with medical supplies, extra batteries, gallons of water and non-perishable food items.
  • Maintain your car’s gas tank at least half full at all times.
  • Rolling power outages occur when too much power is being used at once. Keep your electricity use low by following energy conservation measures.

During

  • Use flashlights for lighting and avoid using candles, because they’re a fire hazard.
  • Disconnect appliances and whatever you do, do not run a generator inside your home or garage.
  • Avoid travelling by car, because traffic signals also malfunction during outages causing additional congestion and accidents.

Following these tips will help you be better prepared for when power outages strike. How do you prepare for outages? Tweet us and let us know!
